"Henrietta & Eleanor: A Retelling of Jekyll and Hyde"

Updated: Apr 27, 2021

A classic in a new way

Henrietta & Eleanor: A Retelling of Jekyll and Hyde is just that, a retelling of the classic 1886 novel Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. This was an audiobook but more of an audio drama but I'm going to review it like a book.

I have never actually read the class Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, however, after this, I really want to. I really really enjoyed this audiobook. There were multiple voice actors for this book Libby Spurrier was the adaptor of the classic to this audiobook.

Listen to it

Unlike the classic, this audiobook is set in modern London (however I still liked to imagine everyone dressed in Victorian-era clothes). Dr. Henrietta Jekyll is a woman, she is a successful doctor but takes her research too far and ends up turning herself into the monster, Eleanor Hyde. Hyde is a horrible and ugly woman who has violent tendencies that Dr. Henrietta Jekyll has no way of controlling Hyde so she tries to hide her secret.

The narrators and the story were very well done and I think this is one of my favorite audiobooks that I have (and I have like almost 200). I finished this one in one sitting and that is rare for me! I recommend this to anyone to listen if you want to try out audiobooks.

4/5 stars
